We all know Sangria, summer’s fruity wine cocktail, but have you ever heard of Tinto de Verano? This Spanish wine cocktail is easy to make and is ever so refreshing. It is a simple combination of red wine and lemon soda that was created in the early 1900’s by Frederico Vargas in Cordoba Spain. The drinks popularity soon spread and restaurants and bars throughout Spain offer the drink each with their own personal signature. While simple enough to make, the drink can be varied by the type of wine used and the measures adjusted to taste. The traditional lemon-lime soda used is a Spanish brand called Gaseosa which is not readily available to us in the States. We found the best substitute is San Pellegrino’s Limonata but an equal mix of lemonade and club soda will do in a pinch. Below we share with you the recipe for a single serving for you to try and should you fall in love with the drink, just increase the volumes in equal proportions to make it by the pitcher. Salud!
