Yes, Sicily is part of Italy … and we’re increasingly seeing delicious wines emerge from this maligned region.  For decades now we’ve heard the virtues of Nero d’Avola from producers, importers & critics alike, yet the truth is a vast majority of those to come to market have just been poorly made.  Over oaked, high alcohol clumsy wines without identity.  Over the past few years – we’ve seen the emergence of other Sicilian reds that have helped forge a new identity for producers in the region.  Along with it, a renewed outlook on how to approach Nero D’Avola. 

A few weeks back we were introduced to the Morgante Family and their line of delicious wines.  Operated by Antonio and his two sons Carmelo & Giovanni, the family has made a tremendous commitment to Nero d’Avola.  Farming it in such a way to coax out the varietals, rich fruit, luscious body, vibrant acidity and firm yet gentle tannins.  Their focus on purity for this varietal comes through from the moment the wine hits your glass.
