Dubliner Cocktail

When it comes to mixed drinks, Bourbon and Rye often overshadow Irish whiskey which is more likely to be imbibed neat or with minor embellishment.  Yet the versatility and range of flavors in blended Irish Whiskey make it a natural for mixing.  The Dubliner cocktail is an Irish Manhattan of sorts with the addition of Grand Marnier.  The orange character from the Grand Marnier adds a layer of complexity and hint of sweetness that rounds the proof of the spirit.  So reach past those bottles of Bourbon, dust off that Irish whiskey you got for Saint Patrick’s Day and give the Dubliner a try.  Sláinte!

Dubliner

In a shaker glass filled with ice add:

  • 2 Ounces Irish Whiskey (we used Ha’Penny)
  • 1/2 Ounce Grand Marnier
  • 1/2 Ounce Sweet Vermouth (Carpano Antica Formula please)
  • 3 Dashes Orange Bitters

Stir to chill but as not to over dilute the cocktail.  Strain into a chilled Cocktail Coupe.  The original recipe calls to garnish the drink a green Maraschino cherry signifying Ireland as one of the “Emerald Isles” (a plain red Maraschino will do).
