Betsy Ross

Behind every good man is a good woman and this President’s Day Weekend we offer you the Betsy Ross.  The drink first surfaced in 1941 in Crosby Gaige’s “Cocktail Guide and Ladies’ Companion.”  Though this brings doubt as to whether Betsy ever personally enjoyed her namesake cocktail, the drink offers a worthy homage to the woman who brought us the stars and stripes.

In a shaker glass filled with ice add:

• 1 1/2 Ounces Brandy
• 1 1/2 Ounces Ruby Port
• 1/2 Ounce Orange Curaçao
• 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters

Stir to gently chill.  Strain into a chilled cocktail coupe.  No garnish is suggested through an orange twist would do nicely.
